Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Julia and Marley!

I have the most awesome students on the planet.
The Becky Lee clinic has been awesome!
Everyone looked so so so good!!!
I am so proud of everyone. Any time Becky asked a question, the groups had an answer (a correct one too!)
Everyone demonstrated great position, an understanding of their horse as an individual, and of course awesome team spirit and support.
I am thankful for my farm family!!!

Beast Callie and Summer jumped with Sharon White last week and they were all perfect!
Summer is starting to show some insane talent in the jumping department!

Beasty and Callie have had a busy end to the week going to Mara De Puys and to Stephens today.
Callie is in a really good place and starting to feel amazing.Beasty is being a little work horse. She is going to get a few easy days before we leave for Millbrook so she is fresh at the event.
Callie holds up to pressure better and better a she ages.
Both mares are happy ,eating and looking forward to body work this week!

What I do today is important because I'm exchanging a day of my life for it.--Anonymous

Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult,is the highroad to pride,self-esteem,and personal satisfaction.

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

Today

Today started bright and early.
Maggie gave us a 6am wake up call.
We got some food and high tailed it to the beach.
We were swimming before 8.
Then we walked down to the pier, saw a carnival (which doesn't open until 5 Pm, much to Maggies dismay).
We went to the pool, got some lunch and Mommy got an Aveda stress relief massage. Yes it was everything it was cracked up to be!
We did a little shopping and I'm ready for bed.
Maggie has not napped and has her heart set on round two of swimming and round one of carnivaling.

With toddler in tow....

I have the sweetest daughter.
I also have a chatterbox daughter who is discovering and experimenting with boundaries.
I lastly have a daughter that was sick enough to be banned from preschool this week.

Maggie is not sick enough require any extra naps but her preschool is a group of germaphobes. For this I suppose I should be happy.

Maggie has spent all week with mommy. Except yesterday. Thank god for Emily Youngblood.

I tell you what. Once maggie is like 6, I'm either going to have gone insane and quit riding (which god knows will never happen....at least the second part) or I will be so amazing at stress management that I will have a school.

"The school for those that want to poke their eyeballs out and feel really bad about it because their daughter is HELPING put laundry away. Not unfolding it and shoving it in random places."

That will be the name of the school.

Maggies diaper days are over. I am over changing a poopy diaper 3 minutes after a lesson was suppose to start.
Maggie is officaly potty trained out of sheer will from my fractured mind.
The super happy almost three year old is resting her chatterbox face, and sticky little fingers that pick up everything breakable. She is napping and resting her fast little legs that regularly meet up with the carpet monster and ground grabber.
I miss her in this moment. I know however once the little lady arouses from her slumber I will want to put cotton balls in my ears and yes, I will admit it, rock in the fetal position. Then she will ask me if I am happy and I will force my self to say "yes, you are mommies little helper".

Ahhhh, now that I'm done venting, my horses were rockstars yesterday. They jumped with Stephen and they were both brilliant!
Summer and Willis were also perfecto.

Today I bought myself a new swifter mop thing. Becky from canada was not interested in participating in the in depth discussion that I wished to have about the swifter wet jet versus the wet/dry version.
I got the wet dry version.
Maggie and I cleaned a bit then went to Serra Valley to teach some amazing students. All look overly prepared for Maryland horse trials this weekend. Red Hawke Eventing has a full house!
Now we rest and then we have an evening jam packed with lessons.
A huge thanks to Em and Elizabeth for helping me with my horses this week!

They love your attention to detail and the pears.

Pears Emily, Beasty said to tell you she <3's pears.

Watch "A Million Dollar Horse..." on YouTube

This video never gets old. Unfortunately with maggie sick, I have plenty of computer time.
I hate being stuck in the house.

Loch Moy 7/7/12 XC

Beast and I in action at Loch Moys new water!

Well thank you.

I am humbled and honored by the experience of owning and riding the horses that I do.
The focus of this blog post however is about my very own Mahogany Beauteo.....Beast.

I am so thankful and appreciative of this amazing chestnut mare. She is wild, weird and wonderful. She broke two halters on friday getting a bath. Both times she stood quietly after her halter breaking task had been completed. She finished her bath halterless and stood perfectly still, staring and snorting at the drain.
Beast hates back boots, and acts like a cat with plastic bags tied to her legs EVERY TIME WE PUT THEM ON.
Beast also can not wear a blanket unless she is in a small paddock with no run in. The reasons why will make me sound crazy if I write it, and I do a good enough job of that on my own.
Beasty is getting fitter and she is getting wilder. But man she tries to keep it together for me. She struggles with the dressage but she is indeed trying.

I never expected to have a horse let alone my wild little chestnut be lazy at Intermediate show jumping. Beast has been ridden by a few people in her day, especially in my pregnancy. Ask any one of them, they certainly did not enjoy show jumping her. She has a spook in her and more scope then she knows what to do with. Historically she has show jump anxiety.
My little mare was like a seasoned pro yesterday, and thankfully I caught on to her after three jumps of lazy. I asked her to try harder and she said"sure mom!".

No words can express  the happiness of my cross country machine. It has taken a lot of hard work, concept understanding, and input from Stephen Bradley , Sharon White, and Jimmy Wofford.
I put all that together and then added Beasts input to the mix, and things really started going well. The way Beasty wanted things to go.

Well there was still a little something missing. Something that I needed to do..... Adjust.  After running at Plantation, I knew I was riding my heart out but I almost felt a shift.

Weeks later, I was trying to demonstrate a concept to one of my students. I asked another student, Rachel Healy, "how much faith do you have in your horse?"

With out even the slightest hesitation, she replied "100%".
There was no other answer!

I looked at my other student and said something like you have done the training now let him be.
As I said it, I realized I was saying a quote from David Oconnor that someone had said to me.
It hit home.

My plan at Maryland was to be in the moment and I achieved that.
I rode Beasty with a supportive leg, and insisted on the right canter and I let her do her job.
She truly amazed me.

I feel like I get to feel a special piece of magic on her. Like when you are my daughters age (3) and you discover rainbows. I know this sounds cheesy but I could never do justice to the gift that horse gives me.
She is beyond special and I trust her 100%, no questions asked.
My mare wants to go advanced and I will continue on the path to achieve that goal.

On a side note, I asked Sally Cousins to walk the course with me Friday. Not only did she say yes, but she is amazing! Such cool insight! She showed me lines to avoid wasting time and energy. Explained some new concepts that really made sense. I ran Beast slow because of the heat but shaved all the turns Sally showed me. Holy crap, I came in under optimum!
Poor Beast is running way too fast and not efficiently at past events and I'm going to change that. I ran her at about our prelim speed yesterday.

To get to the point,  thank you to all these amazing instructors, including my amazing mare Beast. Thank you to my amazing students who often teach me as much as I teach them.
And thank you for the sport of eventing and all it brings, especially the people we get to see every weekend who are like family.

One would think....

That 97 degrees would encourage ones horse to feel quiet.

Not so much.

I must be thankful for my mares amazing jumping ability and laugh at her when she spooks at the same spot on the ground 4,527 times.

The other mare is lazy. She loves the heat but would much prefer a head rub to any form of work.

The Clinic at the old "Menfelt"!!!

What a SUCCESS!!!!
Riders braved the warm weather and came out to the Beautiful Woodvale Farm for the Red Hawke Eventing clinic!!!!

Many eventers in this area have fond memories of the old Menfelt horse trials. Menfelt still carries a bit of magic and it is found at Woodvale farms.http://www.woodvalefarms.com/
Dressage rider and trainer Fred Weber makes a home at the facility http://www.fredweberdressage.com/HOME.html, as well as rider and instructor Valerie Frank.
The facilities are just lovely and (thank god) they often sport a breeze coming down from Braddock mountain.
That breeze was the saving grace for the clinic day. We were lucky enough to have the option of the newly footed indoor, but we ended up enjoying the picturesque outdoor!

We had a really cool mix of exercises. We did grid work, angled lines, gymnastics, and single fences (some of them creepy looking....but on purpose creepy looking). Then we put it all together to do some course work!
All though that sure is a mouthful of stuff, we broke it down for the horses so the concepts were simple and confidence building!

I remember taking clinics when I was younger (and still do) and some of them just being magical. Everything just sort of went perfect.
That is how I think yesterday was. You know why?
The students that came.
They were such a lovely group of people, with such a cool group of horses.   I had as much fun teaching that clinic yesterday as I did when I was 13 and rode in my first Michael Page clinic. ........................
Which was FUN!

I can't wait to do it again!
Here are some photos, taken by the AMAZING photographer Hannah Youngblood!
This is Alex Harvey and Duncan. Duncan was bought just about a year ago from Jessica Bottner Harris and Alex is doing a great job continuing his education!!!!!
Kathy Savory riding her awesome horse Al!!!!!
Amirah showing us that Ponies know what's up!
Em and Jazz sure are looking good!!!
I had to put this one up of me picking on Katherine Rizzo for wearing a tee shirt. For some reason she does not care about impressing me. Maybe it is all the torture I put her through on a daily basis  when I call her with stupid questions. (Katherine is the best best friend a person could hope for!)
I had to put one in of myself. Smiling.
I will now admit to my narcissism.
The amazing Annie Larson and Rae!
Setting up some cool spots in the shade!
Dave and Maggie working hard on keeping Fred's Hammock from floating away.
Just the coolest photo ever.
Little girls with big dreams.

Everyone that attended the clinic, Hannah took tons of shots of all of you. Friend her on Facebook if you would like to see them!!!
